Individual’s use of fireworks prohibited, but goverment permits public sales…

I was watching the news, covering the upcoming 4th of July celebration, with my wife and felt the need to post something about what makes absolutely no sense to me.

With the 4th of July right around the corner, I must voice my dissatisfaction with local and state law makers. Why is it that when any holiday that commonly involves the use of fireworks to celebrate, vendors inundate the area with tents and box trucks offering fireworks for sale?

I have no problem with the sale of such goods. I do however think it is ridiculous that our local government will sell permits to fireworks vendors allowing them to distribute explosive goods for use by the general public (which the use of is considered a misdemeanor). How can a government official get away with writing such a citation when the government itself authorized the sale of said product that resulted in violation of their laws?

Here an example of how it might happen…

1. Local government issues the vendor a permit to sell.
2. The vendor in turn sells you some fireworks.
3. You use these devices in your private celebration.
4. Law enforcement arrives, takes your fireworks devices and issues a citation.

This scenario does not only cost you the amount of the citation and a misdemeanor on your record, but also the cost of the fireworks that are to be confiscated. How is this acceptable?

If you became the recipient of such a citation, would it not be would be well within your rights to dispute the written violation. How can you get a citation when it was those writing the citations that allowed the fireworks to be sold from a local vendor to you in the first place???

Unfortunately, many citizens are incapable of self-governing themselves by making sound decisions and acting on them appropriately. They cannot be properly governed without the implementation and enforcement of many laws. Some laws however are obviously outdated, simply ridiculous, or were apparently based on someone’s personal agenda.

The people that write and enforce such laws need to sit back and take a moment to reflect before setting you up for something like this in my opinion. Since they collect revenue from the fireworks distributors, how can you really be held accountable as a violator of a preposterous law?

Why the double-standard. We (the city) will let them (the distributor) sell it to you (the consumer), but you better not get caught using it!
